Finland Tops World Happiness Report for 2026 Rankings

The World Happiness Report 2026 has ranked Finland as the happiest country globally, continuing its dominance in this category. This ranking is attributed to strong social trust, effective governance, high-quality public services, a healthy work-life balance, and a close connection to nature.

The report, produced in collaboration with the United Nations, assesses countries based on citizen self-assessments of life satisfaction, considering factors such as income level, social support, life expectancy, freedom, generosity, and perceptions of corruption. Nordic countries, including Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, and Norway, continue to perform strongly due to their developed welfare systems, low levels of inequality, and high trust in public institutions.

The report also notes that countries with moderate income levels, like Costa Rica and Mexico, maintain strong performance due to significant social bonds and trust in institutions, often outperforming wealthier nations. The top 10 happiest countries in 2026 predominantly feature European nations, particularly from the Nordic region.
