FUTA Teaching Hospital Approved for 1,200 Staff Positions

The Federal University of Technology Akure Teaching Hospital, led by Chief Medical Director Prof. Olusegun Ojo, has received approval to increase its staff strength to 1,200 workers.

This announcement was made during a press conference on Monday, where Ojo explained that the hospital had successfully convinced the head office of the Civil Service that a larger workforce was necessary. Initially, the hospital was allocated 750 staff, which was later increased to 900, and now to 1,200 due to ongoing inadequacies in staffing.

Ojo highlighted that the hospital's support staff significantly outnumbered clinical personnel, contrary to the recommended ratio. The hospital is also facing challenges such as a nationwide shortage of medical doctors and inadequate medical equipment.

Additionally, Ojo addressed issues of fraud involving individuals collecting money from job seekers under false pretenses of securing employment at the hospital, stating that investigations are underway to address these grievances.
