G100 Summit to Strengthen Opposition Ahead of 2027 Elections

The G100 summit is set to take place on Monday at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) clarifying that its purpose is to build a framework for cooperation among opposition parties, not to endorse a single presidential candidate for the 2027 elections. Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC's National Publicity Secretary, emphasized that the summit's objective is to explore areas of collaboration rather than to unify behind one candidate.

Key opposition figures, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra governor Peter Obi, are expected to attend. Salihu Mohammed Lukman, the G100 convener, stated that the summit will focus on establishing a formal structure for collective negotiations, rather than deciding on leadership roles.

The ADC, along with members from various opposition parties, aims to strengthen their collective position, while the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed the initiative as ineffective. The Labour Party announced it would not participate in the summit.
