Gani Adams Unites Yoruba Leaders Against Insecurity

Gani Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, convened a virtual conference with Yoruba monarchs and community leaders to address the escalating insecurity in the region, particularly the recent kidnapping of 40 teachers and pupils in Oyo State. The conference, which included representatives from various sectors, emphasized the importance of unity among traditional rulers and stakeholders to effectively tackle the rising incidents of kidnapping, banditry, and violent crime.

A communiqué issued after the conference called for urgent action, highlighting the need for a decentralized police structure capable of responding to local realities. The participants condemned the growing wave of insecurity and reiterated demands for the establishment of state and local government police as part of broader security reforms.

They noted that the failure of security agencies to heed early warning intelligence reports has allowed criminal networks to strengthen in Yorubaland, necessitating a collaborative strategy to restore peace and security in the region.
