Gani Fawehinmi's Legacy: A Charge to Uba Sani

On September 5, 2026, Basirat Fawehinmi-Biobaku presented her book, "Gani Fawehinmi and Uba Sani: A Tale Of Mentor and Mentee," in Kaduna, discussing the significant influence her father, the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, had on Uba Sani, the current Governor of Kaduna State. Fawehinmi-Biobaku recalled how Sani, then a 22-year-old activist, met her father in 1993 after the annulment of the June 12 presidential election.

Sani, along with other young activists including Dr. Yunusa Tanko, traveled from Kaduna to Lagos to seek Fawehinmi's guidance. During their meeting, Sani articulated the violation of fundamental rights due to the election annulment, impressing Fawehinmi with his composure and conviction.

Fawehinmi's lasting advice to Sani was to never forget the poor and vulnerable if he had the opportunity to serve Nigeria.
