Uba Sani Honors Gani Fawehinmi's Legacy in Politics

On Saturday in Kaduna, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State commemorated the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi's significant contributions to Nigeria's political landscape during the public presentation of a book. Sani noted that Fawehinmi was instrumental in challenging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over restrictive conditions for political party registration.

He recalled that Fawehinmi, alongside Alhaji Balarabe Musa, engaged in a legal battle that lasted over two years, culminating in a favorable Supreme Court ruling in January 2003. This ruling, delivered by Justice Dahiru Mustapha, opened Nigeria's political space and allowed for the emergence of more political parties.

Sani urged Nigerians to recognize the sacrifices made by activists like Fawehinmi for political plurality and citizens' rights. He described Fawehinmi as a committed pan-Nigerian who believed in empowering every citizen, regardless of their background, and emphasized the importance of honoring those who fought for democracy in Nigeria.
