Police Uncover Fraudulent Presidential Council Scheme

The Nigerian Police Force launched an investigation into the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) after suspicions arose regarding the authenticity of appointment letters purportedly issued by the office of the Chief of Staff to the President. This investigation began on October 17, 2025, following a petition from the Chief of Staff.

The interim report indicated a coordinated scheme to create the illusion of legitimacy for the PFIPC, which was found to be non-existent within the legal framework of the federal government. The investigation traced activities to Adeniyi Adeyemi Mathew, alleged to be the director general of PFIPC, and involved the recovery of forged documents during searches.

Additionally, the police identified links to 34 bank accounts associated with the suspects, leading to recommendations to freeze these accounts and deactivate those opened in the name of PFIPC. The investigation revealed multiple criminal offenses, including forgery and impersonation, with two additional suspects identified.
