Germany Sets Work Hour Limits for Student Visa Holders

In 2026, the German government released official guidelines on the work hours permitted for foreign students on study visas. Students can choose from three options: working up to 20 hours per week throughout the year, limiting themselves to 140 full working days annually, or working up to 280 half days per year.

Additionally, students are allowed to take on part-time work for an unlimited duration, provided they adhere to the specified hour or day limits. These guidelines aim to assist international students in managing their finances while studying in Germany, which has become an attractive destination for students from Nigeria and other African countries due to relatively low living costs and tuition fees compared to the UK.
