Ghana Police Foil Bank Robbery, Arrest One Suspect

On August 13, 2026, at approximately 10:45 am, the Ghana Police Service received intelligence regarding a planned robbery at GCB Bank, Ecobank, and Zenith Bank in Labone, Accra. A police team was deployed to the area, where they spotted the suspects' vehicles parked near the banks.

Upon noticing the police, one vehicle attempted to flee, leading to the arrest of Augustine Okechuku Maazi. The occupants of a second vehicle engaged the police in a shootout, resulting in the deaths of two suspects.

The police recovered two vehicles, a Toyota Highlander (registration number GS-1434-18) and a Hyundai Tucson (registration number GS 7915-17), along with a blow pistol. Augustine Okechuku Maazi is currently in custody assisting with the investigation, while the bodies of the deceased suspects have been sent to the morgue for preservation, identification, and autopsy.

The Ghana Police Service commended the response team for their efforts in thwarting the robbery and encouraged the public to report credible information on criminal activities.
