Ghana Police Arrest Nigerian in Foiled Bank Robbery

On Thursday, the Ghana Police Service received intelligence at approximately 10:45 AM regarding a robbery syndicate planning to attack GCB Bank, Ecobank, and Zenith Bank in Labone. A response team was dispatched and discovered suspected gang members in vehicles near the banks.

One vehicle fled, but police pursued and arrested Maazi, while another occupant escaped. The second group of robbers engaged in a shootout with police, leading to the deaths of two suspects, while a fourth suspect managed to escape.

The police recovered two vehicles linked to the suspects, a Toyota Highlander (registration GS-1434-18) and a Hyundai Tucson (registration GS 7915-17), along with a blow pistol. Maazi is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

The deceased suspects' bodies were taken to the morgue for preservation and autopsy. GCB Bank later issued a statement denying any robbery attempt or breach of its Labone branch, asserting that no customers, employees, funds, or property were affected.
