Globacom Celebrates 23 Years of Telecommunications Innovation

Globacom, launched in 2003, marks its 23rd anniversary as Nigeria's first fully indigenous mobile operator, significantly impacting the telecommunications sector. The company disrupted the market dominated by foreign entities by introducing per-second billing, which democratized mobile access and forced a tariff reset across the industry.

In 2009, Globacom commissioned the Glo-1 undersea fiber-optic cable, spanning 9,800 kilometers to connect Nigeria directly to the United Kingdom. This infrastructure investment enhanced data capacity, reduced bandwidth costs, and laid a strong foundation for West Africa's digital economy.
