Barau Jibrin Attributes First Lady Role to Remi Tinubu's Punctuality

During a plenary session, Barau Jibrin, the Deputy Senate President, commended Remi Tinubu for her punctuality and commitment to legislative duties throughout her 12-year tenure in the Senate, from June 2011 to June 2023. He stated that her dedication was rewarded by her becoming Nigeria's First Lady following her husband, Bola Tinubu's, victory in the 2023 presidential election.

Barau made these remarks on a Tuesday while supporting a proposal for the Senate to recognize lawmakers who remain in the chamber until adjournment. He emphasized that such dedication should be rewarded and referenced the importance of legislative responsibility.

Additionally, he noted that Abdul Ningi of the PDP proposed adopting House of Representatives practices for attendance recognition. Barau also recalled that Tahir Monguno received an award for punctuality during his time in the House of Representatives, and he acknowledged the contributions of former Speaker Yakubu Dogara.
