Gombe Governor Appoints 19 New Permanent Secretaries

On Thursday, Governor Yahaya of Gombe State conducted a swearing-in ceremony for 19 new Permanent Secretaries, increasing the total number appointed by his administration to 55 over the past seven years. He highlighted that more than 100 directors have also been elevated to senior administrative positions within the state civil service.

The governor stated that these appointments aim to enhance the institutional capacity of the government, address manpower shortages, and develop a professional civil service to sustain progress beyond his tenure. The selection process focused on competence, merit, and equitable representation, considering senior directors from the 11 Local Government Areas of the state.

Notably, two new Permanent Secretaries were appointed from outside the conventional civil service, one from the Federal Civil Service and another from academia. Governor Yahaya urged the appointees to view their roles as a trust from the people and to uphold integrity and accountability.

He also announced plans for a comprehensive manpower needs assessment and a recruitment exercise before his tenure ends on May 29, 2027.
