Gombe State Advances Environmental Initiatives Under Yahaya

Gombe State has been recognized for its efforts in environmental management, particularly in tree planting and erosion control projects, as highlighted by Richard Jame, the state’s environment director. Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, known as the "green governor," has implemented proactive measures to address environmental challenges such as desert encroachment and soil erosion.

The state launched the "Go Green" initiative, known as the 3G project, in 2019, aiming to plant five million trees to combat desertification and improve vegetation cover. This initiative is part of a broader environmental campaign that includes promoting environmental education, biodiversity conservation, and community participation.

The state government has also intensified efforts to tackle land degradation through partnerships with development agencies, focusing on projects like the Nigeria Erosion Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) and agro-climate resilience initiatives. These efforts have reportedly contributed to poverty reduction, improved food security, and better public health outcomes in Gombe State.
