Gombe Police Recover Stolen SUV After Five Years

Gombe Police successfully recovered a Toyota Highlander SUV that had been reported stolen on September 17, 2021, from Mr. Cecilia Duru in Rumuodumaya, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The vehicle, bearing registration number FH823PHC, was detected during a routine verification exercise conducted by the police in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on June 8, 2026. Preliminary investigations revealed that the SUV had been moved to Niger Republic and was brought back into Nigeria through Illela Local Government Area in Sokoto State on October 17, 2025.

Further investigation indicated that the vehicle had subsequently been sold in Kaduna State before being re-registered in Gombe. The Gombe Police, represented by Public Relations Officer DSP Buhari Abdullahi, reaffirmed their commitment to combat vehicle theft and urged the public to verify ownership documents when purchasing vehicles.

Efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest those involved in the cross-border theft and sale of the vehicle.
