Kano State Approves New Salary Package for University Workers

The Kano State government has approved a new salary package for workers at its two state-owned universities, Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology and Northwest University. This remuneration package, based on the Federal Government’s salary review for federal universities, will take effect from January 2026, with payments expected to commence in September 2026.

The approval was announced by the governor’s spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa. The salary review will cost the state N391.85 million monthly, totaling N4.70 billion annually.

Aliko Dangote University will incur a monthly cost of N228.20 million, while Northwest University will require N163.65 million monthly. The state government has allocated N1.57 billion in the 2026 Supplementary Budget to cover payments from September to December 2026 and plans to provide N3.13 billion in the 2027 Budget for arrears from January to August 2026.

Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of improving workers' welfare and strengthening higher education quality.
