Gov Yusuf Discusses Security Challenges in Kano

At the first annual security conference of the Institute of Security and Strategic Studies (ISSS), Gov Yusuf, represented by Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya, discussed the difficulties of governing Kano. He received an Award of Excellence in Security Governance during the conference, themed “Building a Resilient National Security Ecosystem: Innovation, Intelligence and Community Partnership for a Safer Nigeria.” Waiya stated that the state government has implemented both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to address insecurity, training approximately 2,000 young men and women under the Neighbourhood Watch and deploying them across all 44 local government areas.

He also mentioned the Anti-Phone Snatching Corps and the Safe Corridor programme, aimed at rehabilitating youths involved in political violence, with about 340 individuals registered and over N500 million allocated for the initiative. Gov Yusuf remarked on the complexities of governing Kano, describing it as a mini-Nigeria due to its large, diverse population.
