Governance Must Inspire Confidence, Says LP Candidate Anyaso

Chimaobi Anyaso, the Labour Party House of Representatives candidate for the Bend Federal Constituency in Abia State for the 2027 elections, stated that governance must inspire public confidence by ensuring transparency, accountability, and adherence to the rule of law. He made this statement on Friday during the 10th anniversary conference of the Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University, which focused on building lasting institutions and faith in scholarship across Africa.

Anyaso argued that trust is foundational for effective governance and that public confidence declines when institutions are perceived as unfair or corrupt. He warned against the withdrawal of capable citizens from public life, stating that when good people shy away from politics, society becomes vulnerable to poor governance.

Anyaso identified weak institutions and declining public trust as central obstacles to Africa's development, despite the continent's potential to produce global talent across various fields.
