NPC Chairman Dr. Aminu Yusuf Passes Away in Niger State

Dr. Aminu Yusuf, the chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), died on Friday, with the news confirmed by Barrister Tanko Benji, a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Niger State. The announcement was made around the time of Friday prayers in Minna.

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago expressed his condolences to Yusuf's family, describing his death as “shocking and a colossal loss” to both the state and the nation. In a message relayed by his Chief Press Secretary Bologi Ibrahim, Governor Bago highlighted Yusuf's extensive experience and commitment to public service, emphasizing that his expertise would be missed, especially as Nigeria prepares for a long-awaited national census.

Governor Bago also prayed for Yusuf's forgiveness and for his family to remain strong during this difficult time. Dr. Yusuf was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the recommendation of Governor Bago and was confirmed by the Senate in October 2025, assuming office in December 2025.
