Government Neglect of Processors Fuels Food Insecurity

The Spectra boss has stated that the government's neglect of local food processors is a significant factor contributing to food insecurity in Nigeria. He pointed out that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) require government support to thrive, particularly in the context of food production and processing.

The lack of prioritization for indigenous food processors leads to reliance on expensive multinational companies for food donations, especially in internally displaced persons' camps. The Spectra boss emphasized that processing food can guarantee stable prices throughout the year, reducing spoilage and ensuring food security.

He noted that the high costs of raw materials and energy inputs, particularly diesel, hinder the profitability of food processing. Additionally, he mentioned the importance of technical knowledge in food processing to compete with multinational companies and the need for local communities to engage in food processing to enhance their economic stability.
