Nigerian Sprinter Grace Nwokocha Makes Triumphant Return to Track Competition

Nigerian sprinter Grace Nwokocha has marked her return to track competition with a convincing win in the women's 60 meters at the Washburn Open, following a nearly three-year suspension for doping. Nwokocha clocked 7.67 seconds to win her heat comfortably, indicating a positive start to the 2026 indoor season.

Known as one of Nigeria's brightest sprint prospects, Nwokocha holds personal best times of 7.36 seconds in the 60m and 10.97 seconds in the 100m, showcasing her elite qualities. Despite the Washburn Open being a relatively short race, her performance demonstrates a clear statement of intent to return to the top level of competition.

Nwokocha became eligible to compete again after serving a three-year doping ban imposed by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) following a positive test for banned substances. She had previously won gold at the African Games in the 4x100m relay but was later stripped of the title due to a violation.
