Grammy Awards Introduce Five New Categories for 2027

The Recording Academy has announced the introduction of five new award categories for the 2027 Grammy Awards, alongside updates to the eligibility rules for the Best New Artist category. These changes will take effect during the February 2027 ceremony and are part of a broader initiative to enhance inclusivity and reflect the evolving global music industry.

Notably, the new categories include Best Asian Pop Music Performance, which will spotlight standout performances in the Asian pop music market, including genres such as K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop, and will feature songs in Asian languages. Additionally, Best Latin Song will honor newly written Latin music primarily in Spanish, while Best R&B Collaboration will recognize modern R&B works that blend influences from hip-hop, pop, and electronic music.

Other new categories include Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance and Best Traditional Folk Album, which will celebrate classic vocal interpretations and records inspired by folk traditions, respectively. The updates to the Best New Artist category will allow for more flexible eligibility criteria, responding to changes in how artists build their careers in the digital age.
