Call for Reforms at HYPPADEC for Better Accountability

During a press briefing held at the Civil Society Organizations (CSO) Media Center in Abuja, a group led by Comrad Okpanachi Jacob called for administrative and institutional reforms at the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC). The group expressed concerns regarding the operational processes within the agency and highlighted the importance of its leadership in delivering development interventions in communities hosting hydroelectric power infrastructure across Nigeria.

They emphasized that a credible HYPPADEC is essential for these communities to benefit from its programs. Jacob pointed out issues related to workplace governance and procurement processes that warrant a thorough institutional review.

The group clarified that their aim is not to undermine public institutions but to encourage measures that strengthen credibility and effectiveness. They urged relevant authorities to review the administrative structure of HYPPADEC to ensure it functions effectively and maintains public confidence, calling for appropriate oversight mechanisms to support the commission's mandate.
