Plans Finalized to Honor Dockworkers on Dockworkers Day 2026

A group has concluded plans to honor dockworkers on Dockworkers Day 2026, recognizing their tireless contributions to Nigeria's maritime industry. The event, scheduled for May in Apapa, Lagos, will focus on promoting environmentally friendly practices and modern technology within Nigeria's seaports.

The theme, "Green Port: Sustainable Practices," aims to facilitate discussions among major stakeholders in the maritime sector, including industry leaders, policymakers, and environmental advocates. The event will feature a keynote address by Aminu Umar, President of the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping, and will be chaired by Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, former President of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria.

Other notable attendees include Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, Managing Director of the Nigerian Port Authority, and Dr.

Dayo Mobereola, Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency. The initiative seeks to enhance the environmental performance of seaports while maintaining economic viability and supporting maritime trade, ultimately outlining pathways to strengthen the role of dockworkers in Nigeria's emerging green economy.
