Guinea and Ivory Coast Leaders Strengthen Cooperation

On Sunday, during a meeting in Abidjan, Guinea’s President Mamady Doumbouya and Ivory Coast’s President Alassane Ouattara agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in security, trade, and political affairs. Doumbouya, who arrived in the Ivorian capital on Friday, called for closer intelligence cooperation to tackle increasing security challenges in the region, including cross-border crime and terrorism.

He expressed Guinea's readiness to collaborate with Côte d’Ivoire on intelligence sharing and efforts to combat these issues. Additionally, Doumbouya highlighted the need to intensify the fight against illegal gold mining, which he described as a strategic issue.

A 2024 report indicated that up to 40 percent of gold produced in Africa is undeclared, resulting in significant revenue loss for the continent. The discussions aim to further strengthen relations between Guinea and Côte d’Ivoire and promote regional security and economic cooperation.
