Gunmen Abduct Eight Charcoal Burners in Plateau State

On Tuesday evening, gunmen abducted eight charcoal burners in Nyalun, Bashar District, Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State. The victims were returning home after processing charcoal when the assailants, who were in a vehicle, suddenly stopped and took them away.

The youth leader of Wase, Shapi Sambo, confirmed the incident on Wednesday. Initially, ten individuals were taken, but two were released after a ransom demand was made.

The victims were identified as Hassan, Sa Idu, Shamsudden, Abubakar, Usamatu, Yakubu, Dayyabu, Usman, Waziri, Inkilulu, Dauda, Ado, Sambo, Sule, Dahiru, Umar, and Amadu. The kidnappers are believed to have taken the victims to a hideout in Kukawa bush.

The incident is part of a troubling trend in the area, which has seen repeated cases of kidnapping and banditry. This latest incident follows a recent event where gunmen killed a soldier in Kanam Local Government Area.

Efforts to reach the Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Alabo Alfr, for comments were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
