Gunmen Kill 24 in Sokoto and Plateau State Attacks

On Sunday, gunmen attacked communities in Sokoto and Plateau states, resulting in the deaths of 24 individuals. In Sokoto State, 17 people were killed in Tureta Local Government Area, including seven visitors who were traveling for Eid el-Kabir celebrations.

The attackers, armed with sophisticated weapons and riding approximately 150 motorcycles, stormed the community around 10-11 am, shooting indiscriminately and looting shops, forcing residents to flee to nearby forests. In Plateau State, seven people were killed and ten others injured during an attack on Gwom Ajang Village in Foron District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, around 9:30 pm.

Rwang Tengwong, a representative of the Berom Youth Moulder Association, described the attack as tragic and called for intensified government efforts to address the ongoing security challenges. Ahmad Rufai, a spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, stated that security operations were underway to control the situation.
