Gunmen Kill APC Chairman and Abduct Victim in Kogi

On August 28, 2023, gunmen killed Ishaq Yunusa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, during an attack along the Itobe–Ochadamu Expressway. The incident occurred on August 24, 2023, around 5 pm near Ojuwo Olijo in Ofu Local Government Area.
According to Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Afusat Saliu, armed assailants emerged from the bush and opened fire on motorists. Yunusa was found dead in his abandoned blue Toyota Corolla, while another occupant was abducted.
His remains were taken to Grimard Hospital in Anyigba for autopsy. In response to the attack, the Kogi State Police, led by Commissioner CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, intensified security operations in the area, searching surrounding forests to locate the abducted victim and apprehend the attackers.
The police urged local residents and motorists to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
