Gunmen Kill Nigerian Army Colonel in Abuja Attack

Colonel Abdussalam Ude, a serving officer in the Nigerian Army, was killed in an attack on his residence in the Kurudu district of Abuja on Monday evening. His wife was shot during the incident, and both his driver and security guard sustained gunshot wounds.

The attackers reportedly attempted to abduct Colonel Ude but faced resistance, leading to him being shot multiple times before the assailants fled. The attack has raised alarms within military circles, especially as Colonel Ude was on the verge of promotion to Brigadier General.

An indigene of Enugu state, he had served in various strategic intelligence and counter-terrorism roles, including operations against insurgents in the North East and international assignments in Chad and France. Security agencies have initiated investigations and a manhunt for the attackers.

This incident echoes a previous attack two years ago when retired Brigadier General Uwem Harold Udokwere was killed in a similar manner. Colonel Ude is set to be buried at the Mambilla Mosque in Abuja according to Islamic rites.
