Colonel Abdussalam Ude Killed in Abuja Attack

On Monday evening, Colonel Abdussalam Ude, a serving officer in the Nigerian Army, was killed in an attack at his home in Kurudu District, Abuja. The assailants attempted to abduct him but, after facing resistance, shot him multiple times before fleeing.

His wife, driver, and security guard were also injured in the attack and were taken to the hospital for treatment. Colonel Ude was preparing for a promotion to Brigadier General at the time of his death.

He was recognized for his service in various strategic intelligence and counter-terrorism roles within the Armed Forces. His killing has raised alarms regarding the safety of military personnel, as it reflects a broader trend of violence against both serving and retired officers.

This incident follows the killing of retired Brigadier General Uwem Harold Udokwere two years prior. The federal government is urged to develop strategies to address the increasing violence, as over 70 people have reportedly been killed across Nigeria in the past week.
