Gunmen Kill Benue MACBAN Chairman After Peace Meeting

Alhaji Risku Muhammad, the state chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), was killed by gunmen on Friday after attending a peace meeting in the Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State. The attack occurred in Okudu Village, near Otukpo, shortly after the meeting aimed at addressing violence in the Ayun community.

Muhammad's companion, Yakubu Isah, confirmed the ambush that resulted in Muhammad's death, along with one other person. Maxwel Ogiri, the chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, described the incident as disturbing and raised concerns about the heightened tensions in the community.

Udem Edet, spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, stated that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack is ongoing. The national leadership of MACBAN condemned the killing, calling it a "dastardly act" and expressing concern for the safety of community leaders involved in peace efforts.
