MACBAN Denies Involvement in Benue Villagers' Killings

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has distanced itself from the killing of 16 villagers in Otukpo, Benue State, which occurred early on a Sunday. The association's state secretary, Ibrahim Galma, issued a statement condemning the attack and urged the public to avoid hasty conclusions linking the incident to Fulani herders.

He emphasized that no Fulani individuals reside in the Otukpo area and noted that there had been previous disputes between communities. Galma highlighted that the Otukpo community had previously evicted Fulani residents, which contributed to tensions.

He called for calm and urged security agencies to conduct thorough investigations. Additionally, he warned against inflammatory comments on social media that could escalate tensions and undermine peace efforts in the region.

The association aims to restore peace in Otukpo, emphasizing the need for proper investigation before drawing conclusions about the attackers.
