Gunmen Kill Benue MACBAN Chairman After Peace Meeting

Alhaji Risku Muhammad, the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Benue State, was killed by gunmen on Friday after attending a peace meeting in Ohimini Local Government Area. The meeting aimed to discuss restoring peace among communities, particularly between Fulani herders and local residents.

The attack occurred as Muhammad was returning home, and his eldest son, Idri Muhammad, confirmed the incident via telephone. Maxwel Ogiri, the Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, described the killing as disturbing and raised concerns about the escalating tension in the area.

Adol Gabriel, the Chairman of Ohimini Local Government Area, also participated in the peace meeting and confirmed the attack. MACBAN's national leadership condemned the killing, calling it a "dastardly" act and expressing deep concern for community leaders who advocate for peace.

They urged security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
