Gunmen Kill Four Herders in Anambra, Set Houses Ablaze

In the early hours of Tuesday, July 21, 2026, gunmen attacked a residential settlement in Agu Ifit, Awka South Local Government Area, Anambra State, resulting in the deaths of four individuals believed to be herders. The assailants also set two houses ablaze and slaughtered several cattle during the incident.

Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, the National Deputy Director General of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, confirmed the attack and expressed condemnation for the heinous act. The Anambra State Police Command, represented by spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, reported that upon arrival at the scene, four male victims were found with fatal injuries.

The police launched a manhunt for the perpetrators and noted that sophisticated weapons were used in the attack. Siddiki urged the Anambra State government to enhance security measures to protect citizens and called for calm among community members while investigations are conducted.
