Gunmen Kill Resident, Abduct INEC Worker in Sokoto

On Thursday morning, gunmen attacked Girkau village in Kebbe Local Government Area, Sokoto State, resulting in the death of a resident, Mallam Samaila Abdullahi Girkau, and the abduction of an official from the Independent National Electoral Commission, Bala A. Ladan Girkau, who works in Tambuwal.
The Sokoto State Police Command, represented by spokesman DSP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed both the killing and abduction, stating that they were in contact with the Divisional Police Officer to gather more details. This incident is part of a troubling trend in Kebbe, which has seen a rise in violent attacks, abductions, and cattle rustling.
Previous incidents included the killing of five people on September 4 and 28 people in August. The police are aware of threats from suspected bandits demanding a N40 million levy from the community.
Security agencies are expected to intensify operations to secure the area and rescue the abducted INEC staff member.
