Gunmen Attack Sokoto Villages, Leaving Many Dead

Gunmen attacked Girkau and Zugu villages in Sokoto at approximately 4 p.m., leading to the death of ASP Bala Wakili, who was attached to the Kebbe Police Division. The attackers rustled livestock and engaged in a gun battle with a joint security team, which included police officers, soldiers, and members of the Sokoto Community Guard Corps.

The confrontation lasted over an hour, but the attackers overpowered the security forces, killing Wakili and burning two patrol vehicles. DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, the spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed the incident and stated that additional security personnel had been deployed to the affected areas.

In a separate incident, bandits attacked the Tsamaye community in Sabon Birni Local Government Area, resulting in at least 21 deaths and the abduction of 37 individuals, primarily women and children. The attack began around 9 p.m. on Monday and continued until after 3 a.m. on Tuesday, leading to the burning of two houses and the loss of livestock.
