Bandits Attack Gidan Kare, Killing Cleric and Abducting Villagers

On Thursday morning, around 8 am, bandits attacked Gidan Kare village in Sokoto, resulting in the death of an Islamic teacher, Mallam Abubakar Danjimme, and the abduction of ten villagers. A resident reported that the attackers opened fire as villagers returned from Tureta town, where they had sought refuge from previous attacks.

The injured individual was identified as Dan Abu. The abducted individuals included Mallam Dan Manga, Shehu, twins Hassana and Hussaina, Badaru, and two children of Mallam Ayuba, Saratu, among others.

Residents expressed concerns that more individuals might be missing. The attackers reportedly planned the assault by observing the villagers' movements and hid in a primary school before launching their attack.

Local residents urged the government and security agencies to enhance efforts to combat banditry in the area. The Sokoto State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufai, stated he would seek further details from the Divisional Police Officer in Tureta.
