Gunmen Kill Police Officer, Civilians in Sokoto Attack

On Monday, a deadly attack by suspected Lakurawa militants occurred in Girkau community, Kebbe Local Government Area, Sokoto State, resulting in the deaths of a police officer, Hussaini Manyu, an elderly resident named Bala Wakili, and a young herder. The assailants, heavily armed, opened fire indiscriminately on security personnel and villagers, leading to several injuries and the rustling of an unspecified number of cattle.

The attackers also set ablaze two security vehicles belonging to the Nigeria Police Force and the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps. A farmer sustained gunshot injuries and is receiving treatment.

Residents reported prior concerns about suspicious activities in the area and have appealed to both the Federal and Sokoto State Governments for enhanced security measures. The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating they received a distress call and engaged the attackers, resulting in the loss of one police officer and the destruction of two vehicles.
