Gunmen Kill Two Policemen in Rivers State Checkpoint Attack

On Monday night, gunmen attacked a police checkpoint in the Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, resulting in the deaths of two policemen. The incident occurred around 9 PM while three policemen from the Aluu Division were conducting a routine stop-and-search operation along the Mbodo Aluu axis of Obiri Kwere Road.

The assailants opened fire and quickly fled the scene in a vehicle. Following the attack, the Rivers State Police Command arrested a suspect identified as Austin Emenik, also known as "Oyibo," who was found in possession of a locally made pistol, four single-barrel guns, and five live cartridges.

Police spokesperson Bless Agab confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing. Rivers State Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju visited the scene the following morning to assess the situation and ensure that investigations continue.
