Gunmen Kill Two Policemen in Rivers State Attack

On Monday night, gunmen attacked a police checkpoint along the Obiri Kwere axis in the Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, resulting in the deaths of two policemen and injuries to another officer. The incident occurred around 9 PM when the assailants opened fire on the officers who were conducting a routine stop-and-search operation.

Following the attack, the gunmen fled the scene in a vehicle. Within 24 hours, the Rivers State Police Command arrested a suspect identified as Austin Emenik, also known as "Oyibo," who is believed to be linked to a wider criminal network.

During the arrest, police recovered a locally made pistol, four single-barrel guns, and five live cartridges. Police spokesperson Bless Agab confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing.

The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, visited the scene on Tuesday morning to assess the situation.
