Pearse Critiques Hamzat's Housing Solutions in Lagos

Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Candidate for Lagos State in the 2027 election, criticized Olufemi Hamzat, the current Lagos State Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 governorship candidate, for his housing proposals. Pearse described Hamzat's approach to the housing problem as "farcical" and "shambolic," asserting that it reflects a lack of empathy and capacity to address the challenges faced by Lagos residents.

He specifically challenged Hamzat's mortgage system proposal, which suggested it would be cheaper for young people earning ₦120,000 monthly to own a ₦15 million home rather than pay annual rent of ₦1,800,000. Pearse argued that individuals earning less than ₦500,000 monthly are primarily concerned with rental costs, not home ownership.

He proposed a holistic approach to housing as governor, including reducing rent deposits from one year to six months and offering financial assistance to low-income renters.
