Health Workers Plan Legal Action Against SSANU, NASU

The Coalition of Healthcare Professionals in Tertiary Education Institutions of Nigeria, led by National Chairman Musa Shehu, has announced plans to sue the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU). The coalition claims that health workers were unjustly excluded from the implementation of the Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CONTTA), despite being dues-paying members of the unions.

They allege that while other non-academic staff in federal universities received the allowance and six months’ arrears, health workers on the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure and the Consolidated Health Salary Structure were left out. The coalition argues that the exclusion is discriminatory and violates the Trade Union Act, which protects workers' rights to union membership without discrimination.

They have called for an investigation by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment and urged SSANU and NASU to rectify the situation by including health workers in the allowance payments.
