NLC Warns of Potential Health Sector Strike Over Salaries

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a warning regarding a potential industrial crisis in Nigeria's health sector if the Federal Government does not urgently address the ongoing salary dispute with the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU). This warning was articulated in a letter dated August 6, 2026, addressed to the Minister of Labour and Employment, signed by NLC President Joe Ajaero.

The letter follows a communication from JOHESU on July 31, expressing frustration over the slow progress in resolving their demands, particularly concerning the adjustment of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure. The NLC expressed concern that numerous agreements and memoranda of understanding with the government have not adequately addressed health workers' grievances.

Ajaero urged the Labour Minister to facilitate immediate negotiations and engage the Presidential Committee on Salaries. The NLC cautioned that failure to resolve the dispute could severely impact healthcare delivery and industrial relations, stating that while the letter is not a threat, they would support JOHESU if further action is necessary.
