Nigeria to Uphold Commonwealth Games Standards, Says NIS DG

Comrade Philip Shaibu, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), stated that Nigeria's next objective is to uphold the standards established at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, for future competitions. He made this statement during a gathering hosted by the British High Commission in Abuja to honor Team Nigeria's athletes, coaches, and administrators for their performances in Glasgow.

Shaibu indicated that the NIS will focus on monitoring the progress of athletes and coaches, introducing them to new training techniques and sports science developments. He emphasized that the follow-up will involve regular assessments and technical support to address any gaps.

Shaibu remarked that the lessons from Glasgow extend beyond winning medals, highlighting the passion and resilience of the Nigerian spirit. He praised the sports management team for ensuring athletes' welfare, noting there were no issues with jerseys, accommodation, or allowances, which contributed to team cohesion and performance.

He also commended President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for his commitment to the sports sector.
