Abdulsalami Abubakar Reflects on Lost Love in Germany

Abdulsalami Abubakar, a former head of state, shared his experience of losing his first love while stationed in Germany as a young soldier in 1964. He faced significant challenges in communicating with his love back home in Minna, Nigeria, due to the lack of telephone infrastructure at the time.

He revealed that there was no single family in Minna with a private telephone line, making it impossible to reach her. As a result, her father issued an ultimatum for marriage, which led to the end of their relationship.

Despite the heartbreak, Abdulsalami later married Fatima on June 30, 1972, after addressing her father's concerns about her education and ensuring that their marriage would not hinder her studies. The wedding took place with notable attendees, including military colleagues.
