Akwa Ibom Governor Eno Reveals N10m Akara Earnings

Umo Eno, the Governor of Akwa Ibom, revealed that he previously made at least N10 million monthly from his akara and bread business, which he branded as “Akara Burger.” He shared this information during the state’s monthly covenant prayer service on a Tuesday, with the video trending the following Wednesday. Eno explained that he began selling akara and bread, later expanding to include a coffee shop, catering to workers heading to Exxon Mobil.

He emphasized the lessons learned about entrepreneurship from starting small. This statement comes in the wake of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu's comments encouraging Nigerians to engage in small businesses like akara to improve their livelihoods.

Her remarks, made during a Renewed Hope Initiative meeting in June, faced criticism for being out of touch with economic realities. She later defended the initiative, stating it also supported various petty traders and announced a N100 million intervention for traders in Jigawa State.
