Apply Now for 2027/2028 UK Commonwealth Scholarships

The Federal Ministry of Education has announced the opening of applications for the 2027/2028 Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowship Plan for qualified Nigerian university graduates. The application deadline is October 20, 2026.

The scholarships, which are tenable in the United Kingdom, cover one-year taught Master’s programs or doctoral studies lasting up to three years. The announcement was made by the ministry’s Department of Scholarship Awards, signed by Dr Folake Olatunji-David, who oversees the Office of PSE.

Eligibility criteria include a first degree with at least a Second Class Upper Division for Master’s applicants and a relevant Master’s degree plus a Second Class Lower Division for doctoral candidates. Applicants must secure admission to at least two UK institutions and provide a supporting statement from a prospective supervisor for doctoral studies.

The selection process will assess academic merit, development impact, and study quality. Applications must be submitted through the Electronic Application System, including various required documents.

The ministry encourages alignment of proposed studies with Nigeria’s developmental priorities.
