Police Arrest Fake Agency DG Adeniyi Adeyemi in Osun

Adeniyi Adeyemi was arrested on Tuesday in Osun State by the Nigeria Police Force's Intelligence Response Team (IRT) after a prolonged manhunt. This followed his failure to appear in a Federal High Court in Abuja, where he faced eight counts of forgery and conspiracy.

Justice Mohammed Umar issued a bench warrant for Adeyemi's arrest after he did not attend the arraignment. His lawyer, Genesi Franci, argued that Adeyemi was in fear for his life and had written to President Bola Tinubu alleging threats to his safety.

The court adjourned the case until September 30, 2026, and confirmed the arrest operation was initiated after Adeyemi reportedly switched off his mobile phone for two days. The police accused Adeyemi of presenting false documents, including a purported presidential appointment letter.

The Nigerian Bar Association's president, Afam Osigwe, stated that the court acted within the law by issuing the bench warrant due to Adeyemi's absence.
