Teenagers Foiled in Bomb Attempt at Maiduguri Hospital

On March 16, three teenagers attempted to bomb the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) in Borno State by concealing explosives inside a food flask. Security personnel intercepted the suspects at the hospital entrance when they raised suspicion by approaching the gate at high speed.

When questioned, the suspects reversed their tricycle, throwing the food flask containing the explosive device, which detonated and injured security personnel Ali Musa. This incident occurred shortly after a series of bomb blasts in Maiduguri, which had already resulted in 23 deaths and 108 injuries.

An eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed that the attack appeared to target the hospital. Following the incident, President Bola Tinubu visited Borno State to address the security situation, and key military officials, including Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede and Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, arrived in Maiduguri on March 18 to coordinate security operations.
