Teenagers Thwarted in Bomb Attack on Borno Hospital

On March 16, 2023, three teenagers allegedly attempted to carry out a bombing at a hospital in Maiduguri, Borno State, by concealing an explosive device inside a food flask. The attack was intercepted at the hospital's entrance by vigilant security personnel.

Ali Musa, a security guard, recounted that the suspects, appearing to be around 13 or 14 years old and looking unkempt, tried to evade security checks by arriving on a tricycle. Their suspicious behavior raised alarms, leading to a confrontation.

As they attempted to flee, one of the teenagers threw the flask, which detonated, causing injuries to several individuals nearby. The explosion was part of a broader pattern of violence in Maiduguri, which included another bombing at Mondai Market that same evening.

The attacks resulted in at least 23 fatalities and 108 injuries. In response to the escalating violence, President Bola Tinubu ordered immediate security reinforcements in Borno State.
